As an Automotive Inspector you will be responsible for handling complex automotive complaints between consumers and the automotive industry. This includes complaints relating to new cars, used cars and mechanical repairs.

You will use your extensive automotive experience and practical knowledge to engage with consumers and traders to assist in complaint resolution, carry out technical inspections, and provide reports and submissions.

Your analytical and problem solving skills will be invaluable as you work with businesses and traders to ensure that NSW Fair Trading safeguards consumer rights. You will monitor industry practices and identify market place trends; and help develop strategies to address such trends. You will also be involved in conducting trader education visits and community education.

To be successful in this position you will have at least 10 years’ experience in the automotive industry and have the ability to develop a detailed knowledge of the laws governing the automotive industry.

You will have the ability to do on-site mediation in relation to automotive complaints and undertake vehicle inspections. You will have strong written communication skills to prepare correspondence, reports and submissions and the ability to work independently and manage and prioritise cases in a high volume environment.

As you will be dealing with a variety of customers, traders and staff, you must have strong conflict resolution and customer expectation management skills, along with sound judgement and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

This role requires you to hold relevant automotive trade qualifications, including a current tradesperson certificate, as well as a current drivers licence and willingness to travel
