Council’s library service is seeking an experienced and innovative Collection Services Librarian to join our dynamic team. This is a rare opportunity to use your collection development skills to provide a high quality collection to meet customer demand using the latest technologies and best industry practice.

 

To be considered for this position you will need to meet the essential criteria;

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science or equivalent allowing professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
  • A minimum of two years experience within a public library with relevant experience in collection development and policy development.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and sound understanding of issues and processes involved in collection and resource development such as community and stakeholder consultation, supplier liaison, product/resource assessment and policy development.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the range of products and resources available (including electronic and print resources), and their suitability for a public library collection which is relevant and capable of reflecting the changing information needs of the community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest technology which is or can be potentially employed in the collection development process to address the changing needs of the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in using the library website, the social media and other means of online engagement to promote library collections and services and collect customer feedback.
  • Widely read, with a good knowledge of literature at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and respond to issues that may impact on customer service at library service points.
  • Strong commitment to and an understanding of the philosophy of quality customer focused service and willingness to develop good customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work across sections within Library Services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automated library management systems and technological solutions, and their application in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EEO, WH&S and the principles for a culturally diverse society.
