About the team

This role is within the National Measurement Institute's Quality & Safety Team, which works alongside technical and scientific personnel, supporting them to deliver metrological services to Australian industry. The group is responsible for continuous improvement and maintenance of the NMI Quality Management System and the provision of a safe working environment. The position will be based at our headquarters in West Lindfield, NSW and will report directly to the NMI Quality and Safety Manager. The role will work closely with the Quality Managers based at our North Ryde and Port Melbourne sites.

 

Our ideal candidate

The successful candidate will have a technical background and experience in an organisation with an accredited quality system. You will have a strong customer focus, drive and initiative to keep technical teams engaged with quality improvements across the organisation.


Key attributes include:

  • significant knowledge and understanding of the requirements of quality system accreditation standards (particularly ISO/IEC17025), with demonstrated experience in implementing such a quality system in a laboratory environment, preferably physical or engineering
  • ability to work collaboratively in a team and establish and maintain productive working relationships with management, as well as operational staff
  • well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and common sense, whilst working under very broad direction
  • demonstrated consultation skills and extensive experience communicating with influence, both verbally and in writing.

 

What you will do

The successful candidate will provide a leadership role, contributing to the quality of the physical and engineering measurement services offered by the NMI.


Key responsibilities include:

  • providing managerial and operational support for the maintenance and implementation of improvements to the Physical and Legal Metrology quality systems, to ensure ongoing conformance to ISO/IEC17025
  • managing the internal audit program of Physical and Legal Metrology laboratories and conducting/leading internal audits, to verify the implementation and conformance of the quality system
  • engaging with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements, including representing NMI at quality assessments/audits by accreditation agencies and other third parties, and coordinating responses on the findings of the assessments/audits.

 

Eligibility

Tertiary qualifications in Science, preferably physics, or engineering.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

 

Security Clearance

This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

 

Notes

The position is based in NMI Lindfield NSW. Meritorious candidates who are not based in Sydney will be considered for this role.

Interstate travel will be required.

This recruitment process is being used to fill a current ongoing Science and Technical 6 position. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing Science and Technical 6 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
