Freedom of Information Officer

  • Competitive base salary from $79,830 with generous superannuation contributions of 15.4%

The team

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Team is located within ASIC's Chief Legal office (CLO).

The FOI Team is responsible for managing ASIC's obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act). As a Freedom of Information Officer, you will you're your technical expertise and strategic judgement to make informed decisions within relevant timeframes, under the FOI Act.

The role

In this role, you will apply your analytical ability to:

  • Act as the FOI decision maker in relation to FOI requests under the FOI Act
  • Assist in the preparation of submissions to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining FOI records including reference and template materials
  • Assist with internal reports and briefings relevant to FOI related matters
  • Collaborate and liaise with internal stakeholder groups to ensure timely provision of documents relevant to FOI applications

As a Freedom of Information Officer, you will have excellent time management skills and strong attention to detail. You will have experience in processing FOI requests in line with the FOI Act, including the experience or knowledge to interpret and apply FOI related legislation.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholder groups and managers is required in this role to contribute to the success of the wider team.

A relevant tertiary qualification in law, a business-related discipline or equivalent work experience in a regulatory agency or legal services environment is desirable.
