Snowy Valleys Council, on the southwestern slopes of the Snowy Mountains, was established on 12 May 2016 following the amalgamation of the Tumbarumba Shire Council and the Tumut Shire Council.

About the Opportunity

Snowy Valleys Council now has a full-time opportunity for an experienced GIS Officer to join their team based in Tumbarumba, NSW.

Reporting to the Coordinator GIS and Asset Systems, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Council's geographic data and mapping system to enable users to provide spatial information to internal and external customers.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the spatial database for Council's cadastre, topographic, environmental, and assets infrastructure;
  • Maintaining and administering spatial data systems;
  • Continually improving the corporate GIS platform;
  • Producing special purpose maps for Council reporting;
  • Liaising with various departments of Council to ensure the accuracy of information is maintained on all Council systems;
  • Promote the use and development of GIS services throughout the organisation;
  • Projecting managing any required data improvement programs and/or data collection and liaising with staff and consultants as required;
  • Providing Council with the latest information and making recommendations in relation to GIS and GPS software and hardware;
  • Acting as Mapping Officer in the Local Emergency Operations Centre on an as required basis; and
  • Providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
