Customer Service Talent Pool

Introduction

V/Line, Victoria's largest regional passenger transport operator, has a proud history of serving its communities and customers through rail and coach services. As part of a constantly evolving industry, V/Line is responsible for over 80 train stations and maintenance of approximately 4,200 kilometres of rail track across Victoria. The organisation is committed to maintaining a high focus on safety and delivering excellent customer service, continually striving to improve the overall customer experience.

We are looking for customer centric staff and safety focused staff for Conductor and Customer Service positions that may become available based in the South/South West region (the rail line extends from Tarneit to Warrnambool) over the next twelve months to take part in our Assessment Centre. We require exceptional customer service staff to assist our customers on the trains, and across  platforms and stations. Detailed information, including salary and position descriptions will be provided to candidates who are invited to attend our Assessment Centre.

What are the requirements of our Conductor and Station staff at V/Line?

Our staff must have the customer and safety at the forefront of their mind at all times. You must be able to work in a highly autonomous environment with strict adherence to defined safety and operational protocols whilst at the same time demonstrating high levels of personal initiative to resolve customer issues.

As such, we seek individuals who can demonstrate a high degree of maturity, previous success in operating in a safety and time critical environment and an absolute commitment to providing superior customer service for both Customer Service and Conductor positions. We seek candidates who have worked in a customer focused environment. Through previous work experience, you have effective problem-solving skills and sound written and oral communication skills. In addition, you possess a high level of personal presentation and have the ability to portray a professional image to the travelling public at all times. You will be responsible for helping achieve on-time departures, actively manage the platforms at the station and work in a team environment to achieve performance targets. Some station roles require responding to customer enquiries, selling tickets (MYKI and paper tickets) and cleaning. Our staff are required to work on a rotating shift basis including weekends and public holidays and a current driver licence is required.

The Recruitment & Selection Process

V/Line runs a number of Assessment Centres throughout the year to assess the suitability of all candidates for our Talent Pool. The Talent Pool is an established “pool” of pre-assessed candidates for our Conductor and Customer Service roles within V/Line. If and when V/Line has a suitable vacancy, it may be filled by a candidate from this pool.

The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, national probity (police) check and medical examination in line with the National Standard for Health Assessment for Rail Safety Workers. Please note that all candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application but unsuccessful candidates will not be provided with specific feedback.
