This is an identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. 

You will be part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) Health Promotion Service. The Health Promotion Service works in partnership with communities and local organisations to develop projects and initiatives that aim to create environments that support health and wellbeing, build resilience within communities and identify local actions to address local needs. We are also responsible for the local implementation of state-wide programs that address key priorities such as childhood obesity.

The Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator will facilitate planning, implementation and evaluation of community led Aboriginal initiatives and delivery of holistic care to pregnant Aboriginal women and their families, to improve the health and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community. This role will also enhance and build the collaborative working relationship between the Health Promotion Service and Aboriginal controlled organisations and other partners.


  1. Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and a female is a genuine occupational qualification for this position and is authorised under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Aboriginal health, health promotion, public health or community development or relevant equivalent work experience or a combination of study and work experience.
  3. Demonstrated understanding and application of health promotion principles and skills in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs and activities.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the processes of community development and building partnerships and experience in the provision of holistic care.
  5. An understanding or experience working with Aboriginal women and families and assisting health staff to provide services for Aboriginal communities.
  6. Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare briefings and reports.
  8. Current drivers licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
