Penrith City Council is a proactive Council committed to undertaking effective land use compliance programs across a broad range of zones and land uses. An opportunity exists for a motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Coordinator to lead the Development Compliance team delivering the Council’s environmental and land use compliance programs.

This position will see you lead and manage an effective Development Compliance Team to regulate policies/ legislation in order to protect and enhance the environment of Penrith Council and the health and safety of its community. You will be a key team member working with fellow professionals to investigate, resolve and provide advice in relation to environmental, building, swimming pool and land use compliance matters. You will also be involved in procedure and policy development, education and auditing activities.

Essential Criteria:

  • A tertiary qualification in building surveying, environmental health, town planning or a related discipline
  • Experience in Development, Building and land use planning
  • Proven experience in staff management and leadership, and the ability to build teams with a commitment to high standards of performance
  • High level understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993, Swimming Pools Act 1992 and a broad understanding of the Building Code of Australia
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated capacity to conduct regulatory offences investigations to a very high standard.
  • Legal/court experience as it relates to compliance functions, including the preparation and presentation of evidence for Court proceedings
  • Proven ability to monitor the progress and completion of investigations and tasks, and evaluate on performance
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver agreed outcomes
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate computer systems and database systems
  • Sound organisational and time management skills
  • A sound knowledge of, and ability to implement, the principles of EEO and WHS
  • Current Class C Driver Licence

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous Local government experience
  • Completion of relevant courses in investigation and court procedures;
  • Experience in procedure and policy development

Commencing Salary: $105,300 - $120,700 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation

A Leaseback Vehicle is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.
