The Department of Planning & Environment is the lead NSW Government agency in planning for a growing NSW. The Department is going through an exciting period of organisational and operational change.

The Department’s two related agencies - the Office of Environment & Heritage and the Office of Local Government - support the conservation and protection of the environment and an effective local government sector in NSW. Several other entities associated with the Department include the Environment Protection Authority, statutory trusts responsible for zoos, parks and gardens, independent assessment and planning bodies, and development corporations.

 

About the Role:

The role is located in the Correspondence and Cabinet team within the Government Services branch and involves oversight of a small team of writers tasked with drafting complex ministerial and executive correspondence. A key requirement of the role is to provide efficient, effective and consistent customer focused writing and editing services for written communication.

 

Primary purpose of the role

The primary objective of this role is to ensure consistent, customer friendly and high level plain English writing standards are applied to all ministerial and executive correspondence drafted by the team of writers and that these responses are delivered to a high quality and according to deadline.

 

The Senior Government Service Advisor will also contribute to the delivery of parliamentary, cabinet, and ministerial requests as necessary in support of broader Government Services branch responsibilities.

 

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in professional writing, editing and proofreading.
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, communications, public policy, political science or another relevant discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience.

To be successful in the role, ideally you can:

  • Coordinate, prepare, and deliver ministerial and executive correspondence that meets required standards in terms of content, accuracy and style
  • Coordinate the timely distribution of requests to relevant Portfolio areas, review the accuracy and quality of responses provided, and make recommendations for improvements or changes to responses
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating their engagement in, and contribution to, timely correspondence that meet required standards.
