Transport for NSW is currently accepting applications for its 2019 Scholar Program. 

The Scholar Program

Our Scholar Program provides university students with the opportunity to gain practical paid work experience in their discipline area. You will be able to increase your business knowledge and develop your professional network as well as be involved in a unique learning experience.

What does the Scholar Program offer?

  • The Scholar Program duration will range between 2-5 years depending on the duration of your degree
  • You have the option to work part time during semester - a minimum of 14 hours a week
  • You are required to work full time -a minimum of 35 hours a week during the summer and winter university breaks
  • Support and flexibility through flexible working hours to ensure you can finish your degree whilst learning to juggle work commitments (we want you to succeed!)
  • Structured and job specific training plus opportunities to develop your skills and capabilities (in fact, ALL of our Scholars surveyed agreed that they felt well supported during their program!)
  • Competitive award salary (Transport Grade 1 $51,666 - $56,833 pro rata) plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading as per current award conditions
  • The opportunity to be part of the Young Professionals Network (YPN) and engage with senior leaders, attend forums and events and share innovative ideas
  • If you maintain a credit average each semester, you will receive reimbursement for university course fees.

Transport for NSW has Scholar opportunities in the Sydney Metropolitan Region and NSW regional areas listed below:

  • Sydney Metropolitan
  • NSW – Northern Region (Grafton, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Ballina and surrounding areas)
  • NSW – Southern Western Region (Wagga Wagga, Yass, Holbrook, Narrandera, Hay and surrounding areas)
  • NSW – Southern Region (Mittagong, Bomaderry, Bega, Cooma, Wollongong and surrounding areas)
  • NSW – Western Region (Parkes, Orange, Lithgow, Dubbo, Bathurst, Broken Hill and surrounding suburbs)
  • NSW - Hunter Region (Newcastle, Maitland and surrounding areas)

Scholar opportunities exist in a variety of Engineering and Environment, Business and IT disciplines. 

We’re looking forward to welcoming some fresh faces on-board and one of those could be you. But, before you apply for the Scholar Program, there are a few things you’ll need to check: 

  • You’re a permanent Resident or Australian / NZ citizen at time of applying
  • You must be entering your first or second year of an undergraduate degree in 2019
  • You must be able to maintain a credit average throughout the duration of the program
  • You must be able to commence employment in late January 2019
