The modern society demands increasing levels of safety from every new technology that is introduced into service. Complex technological systems often interact with their users and environment in ways that are not immediately obvious and may lead to the emergence of hazards. The best way to address the emergence of hazards is to design them out of the system or to implement design solutions that mitigate the hazards.

The safe operation of these complex systems will need to be addressed differently through the implementation of a safety culture and framework that is scalable and tailored to the operational demand. About the opportunity:

Supporting the Operations Manager and Systems Safety Capability Lead, you will take a lead role in developing system safety cases, conducting systems safety reviews and providing recommendations to Nova's clients in major Defence maritime programs.

What will you be involved with:

• Developing and maintaining safety cases for complex systems;
• Review project safety and certification plans for suitability and policy compliance;
• Operate within a technical regulatory framework;
• Manage technical risks;
• Mentoring other Safety Engineers within Nova;
• Liaise with other staff on safety and certification matters;

What we would like from you:

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree - Recognised by Engineers Australia;
• Australian Citizen with a current or recently suspended AGSVA clearance - (NV1 Preferred).
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Systems Safety;
• Experience leading Systems Safety reviews;
• Experience in Systems Safety Engineering in major projects;
• Experience working within a formal system safety framework such as MIL-STD-882c;
• Defence Maritime experience well regarded but not mandatory;
• Familiarity of Naval Tech Regs;
• Experience in management or maintenance of a system safety case;
• Proven ability to produce high quality documents in short time frames.
