The modern society demands increasing levels of safety from every new technology that is introduced into service. Complex technological systems often interact with their users and environment in ways that are not immediately obvious and may lead to the emergence of hazards. The best way to address the emergence of hazards is to design them out of the system or to implement design solutions that mitigates the hazards.

The safe operation of these complex systems will need to be addressed differently through the implementation of a safety culture and framework that is scalable and tailored to the operational demands. About the Opportunity:

We have several new opportunities for Senior Systems / Safety Assurance Engineers or Professionals to join our Transport operations in Sydney & Newcastle. You will have some autonomy to work independently, as well as part of a team. There will be some travel required between our offices.

What you will be involved with:

• Preparing for Systems Safety Program reviews and workshops;
• Supporting hazard and risk identification, allocation and management;
• Management of risk registers and Safety hazard logs;
• Systems safety assessment and risk analysis
• Safety integration;
• Support to the introduction of Safety management tools and applications
• Project co-ordination and management;
• Verification and Validation of Safety controls and mitigations;
• Producing safety reports, and associated safety related documentation.

What we would like from you:

• Bachelor of Engineering Degree; Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics or similar Engineering Degree (recognised by Engineers Australia);
• Australian Citizen, or the ability to obtain Citizenship.
• Minimum of 5yrs experience in a Systems or Functional Safety role
• Exposure to project based environments; (Transport, Rail, Defence, Aviation industries highly regarded);
• An appreciation of SFAIRP, ALARP, etc
• Strong MS Office and software skills;
• Exposure to Safety tools (ASCE, Bow-tie, GSN);
• Have excellent interpersonal skills;
• Ability to consult to a diverse group of clients;
• Be a clear communicator both written and verbal;
• Be a team player with a can-do attitude;
• Understand project management methodologies (i.e. PMBOK);
• MIEAUST (desirable).
