Our Opportunity

The Thales Benalla Facility makes various munitions, primarily for the Australian Defence Force. The Ammunition Production section makes Small Arms Ammunition, metal parts for large calibre ammunition and bombs, as well as assembling inert components for other products.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for implementing improvement projects to the production areas from initial preparation stage through to implementation and commissioning phases, ensuring quality, cost and continuous improvement objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare specifications and contracts, assess tenders, and actively participate in the development, implementation and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Develop engineering solutions to process and plant problems both individually and together with others, including continuous improvement activities
  • Services and infrastructure upgrades
  • Project management of works and coordinate contractors, suppliers, and internal resources.
  • Keep abreast of engineering developments, new products, and materials used for manufacture and handling of dangerous goods.
  • Develop and apply a sound knowledge and associated experience in explosive munitions manufacturing technology.

About You

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical /Mechatronics /Chemical or related) with eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Previous work in a Manufacturing environment, especially within Hazardous work areas is a distinct advantage
  • Sound problem solving and research abilities to formulate practical solution to production issues
  • Exposure to Lean/Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Project management ability , capable of planning and scheduling work within a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding and exposure to risk and safety management systems, e.g. JSEAs, SWMS, and HAZOP are a distinct advantage
