THE Company

A large privately owned company currently going through an exciting period of organisational and operational growth based at Kemps Creek has an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and disciplined Senior Environmental Engineer/Planner that possesses the necessary skills and ability to assist with the development and enhancement of the group's business.

Position Overview

Manage and facilitate the development and planning process across the business. Consult with the EPA, local councils and other regulatory bodies. Develop and implement ideas and strategies to grow the business. Ensure regulatory compliance with an operational focus.

The company owns a number of quarries, recycling depots and landfills across NSW, ACT and Victoria.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will provide input into the annual strategy and will be working closely with directors, operations managers and site managers.

Key responsibility areas are:
  • Project manage, lodge and facilitate the development of:
    • Environmental Impact Assessments
    • Environmental Impact Statements
    • New Development Applications
    • Modifications to Development Applications
    • Other reports/investigations required by regulatory authorities
  • Waste management & treatment, landfilling, recycling, remediation, quarrying, and composting activities
  • Manage development of new landfill cells including quality control and approval from authorities
  • Manage and co-ordinate projects with external consultants in regards to the development of EIS's, DA's, reports, management plans, environmental monitoring, etc
  • Prepare, implement and monitor Environmental Plans including LEMP, Operational Management Plans, Water Management Plans, Landfill Rehabilitation & Closure Plans
  • Prepare and submit Annual Environmental Management Reports to Regulatory Bodies as required by the licences & approvals
  • Establish a data base with respect to DA and EPL obligations
  • Attend and participate in all EPA site visit and inspections
  • Meet and consult with regulatory bodies - Councils, EPA, DPI, Sydney Catchment, Trade & Investment, Resource and Energy in regards to the development and environmental impacts of the site activities
  • Respond to all regulatory requests in a timely manner, including EPA, councils, etc
  • Keep abreast and informed of all new and/or changed environmental legislative requirements to ensure compliance across the business
  • Undertaking field work as required
  • Undertake site specific environmental projects including storm water management, leachate management, site clean-up
  • Prepare grant applications
  • Assist with compliance obligations across the business
  • Ensure that all DA related works and activities are performed in accordance with approved standards, and requirements of legislation and regulations
  • Ensure environmental or planning issues are promptly reported to the management and addressed to ensure there are no adverse impacts to the environment and amenities
  • Follow up on all complaints received and ensure appropriate measures are implemented to rectify the issues of concern; and ensure that full details of complaints are recorded in the site registers
  • Prepare and submit monthly environmental management reports to executive management
  • Provide environmental training to business unit managers and staff
  • Provide strategic planning advice to peers
To be considered for this role you will require:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • A relevant degree in a related discipline e.g. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of waste management & treatment, landfilling, recycling, remediation, quarrying, and composting activities
  • Up to date knowledge and solid practical planning experience within the New South Wales planning and approvals system
  • Experience dealing with EPA and various councils
  • Project management and project costing skills
  • Computers – High level literacy in word, excel, power point & project management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and high level influencing skills with a track record of strong stakeholder management as well as report writing, focussing on good interpretation of technical data
  • Ability to write and present environmental management reports to both external and internal stakeholder
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of the team
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills
  • Quality Assurance & Control.
