Detail information about job Field Instrumentation Engineer. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Lead a team of controls and instrumentation engineers
  • Gladstone based
  • Work with key stakeholders

Your interest in working for Shell Australia is the first step towards a great career that focuses on securing an energy future for generations to come. Shell Australia can offer you a platform from which you can propel your career and work on projects as diverse as the game-changing Prelude FLNG, industry-leading QGC project in Queensland, or our range of upstream exploration and development opportunities.  Shell has been in Australia since 1901. Today Shell Australia is focused largely in the upstream sector, especially in the exploration, development and production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil.

The Field Instrumentation position will be accountable to specify, install, commission, maintain, modify, troubleshoot field instrumentation for effective process control, safeguarding and reliability.  The candidate we are seeking to appoint will work extensively with reliability, Integrity assurance, safety critical and production critical tasks, MOC and documentation processes to ensure Shell Australia’s business targets are met.  For this key role it is also important to note that the incumbent would be required to frequently participate and generate risk assessment, prepare technical datasheets, reports and technical specifications.  The role also works closely with the production support team and maintenance execution team.

In this role you will lead a team of controls and instrumentation engineers to develop and drive maintenance, modification of control and field instrumentations.  You will drive process safety through the functional safety and control systems modification plans,  including preparation of strategy, developing reliability framework and bada actor management in controls and instrumentation. You will be an  active member in conjunction with the  site leadership team in the  preparation and delivery of business plans, focussing on integrity, reliability, cost, technology and innovation. This role will see you collaborating with peers, internal stakeholders i.e. Shell Global functions, Maintenance, Operations; and external stakeholders such as local regulators. The role would see you actively supporting, developing and coaching of team members.

In this hands on role,  you will work pro-actively on control and instrumentation diagnostics, maintenance records and identify any potential defect and / or improvement in functionality of controls and field instrumentation.  To set you up for success you will be able to call upon your skills in technical knowledge - pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, radar level transmitters, Coriolis mass-flowmeters, ultrasonic flowmeters, fire and gas detectors, vibration probes and transmitters, accelerometers, shutdown valves, control valves and generally instruments and accessories that are part of Instrumented Protective Function. Detailed knowledge on process control networks, fire and gas systems, safety integrated systems and network routers, switches and servers.

Activities you can expect are centred around preparing work instructions for troubleshooting of field instrumentation, troubleshooting defects on any field instrumentation and control & safety system, maintain and modify (with assistance) existing field instrumentation and integrated control and shutdown systems, install and commission simple field instrumentation (e.g. pressure transmitters; temperature transmitters; proximity switch; solenoid valve) and explain and evaluate existing field instrument selection and installation against engineering standards and practices.  Equally of interest is demonstrated experience in recording validation/calibration results and evaluating results against performance standards to determine if (any) corrective action is required.

If this sounds like you and you can complement this with excellent team co-ordination capability and a history of working closely with peer engineers, maintenance, production and projects and have a strong drive to deliver results with high quality and commitment to schedule then we would be interested to receive your details.
