Acting as a ‘lead consultant’ under the mentorship and guidance of the Principal Engineer and Director, you will lead and manage project activities and resources, ensuring that jobs are delivered in the safest and most efficient ways possible, and meet my client their clients’ expectations of quality, communication, time and budget.
It is expected that you will take responsibility for engineering deliverables developed by themselves or junior team members, ensuring you meet project scopes, comply with Australian Standards, align with my clients ethos, and provide industry-best value and meaning.
Through commitment to outstanding results, the Senior Structural Engineer promotes both their own professional capabilities and my clients reputation for excellence in the broader industry.
Furthermore, you will be also tasked with directly assisting the Director with business development activities including the preparation of tender responses and client-facing, as well as team resource management and mentorship as required.

Required Skills and Experience
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 6-8 years’ of experience as a practicing Structural Engineer. Preferably current in industry circles and open to further academic/professional qualification.
  • Current and ongoing membership with the Institute of Engineers of Australia. Chartered Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
Consulting Skills
  • Demonstrated capability in a wide variety of engineering tasks, including but not limited to: detailed inspection, structural assessment & load rating, asset monitoring, structural modelling & analysis, detailed structural design, development of remedial solutions, planning, technical report writing and general problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex problems, see multiple pathways for resolution and identify the most appropriate solutions/options.
  • Capable of writing technical engineering reports that convey complex and/or multi-faceted concepts, results and recommendations clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate verbally, visually and in written form.
Specialist Skills and Experience
  • Sound understanding of structural engineering theory and practice, particularly relating to the design and assessment of bridges and associated civil infrastructure.
  • Understanding and competence in Asset Management theory and implementation, particularly pertaining to the inspection, repair & maintenance of civil structures such as bridges and culverts.
  • Functional competency in structural modelling software such as SpaceGass, Microstran, Strand7, etc. and the ability to critically assess/validate all assumptions and outputs.
  • Working knowledge of current Australian Standards and other relevant engineering guidelines, both domestic and international.
  • Working knowledge and general awareness of engineering industry best-practice techniques, methods and products.
  • Comfortable capability to undertake in-field investigations, potentially including qualifications (or willing to obtain) in specialist access such as Confined Space Entry, Elevated Work Platform license, etc.
Project Management
  • Ability to plan, monitor, report and review project programs
  • Understanding general financial control and monitoring measures
  • Effective management of a small team and demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction
  • Understanding of risk management practices, and decision making ability and confidence relating to project risk and performance
  
Business Development
  • Ability to assist in scoping work, evaluating tenders, and develop fee proposals and methodology statements
  • Ability to interact directly with there clients or potential clients, and identify opportunities to promote service offerings
  • Willingness and ability to promote my clients capabilities and service offerings in the markets in which they operate.
