Purpose of the Role

We have a unique opportunity for a Technical Designer/3D Draftsperson to join our team to support our company for the construction industry /hydraulic design innovation.

Your role is to be a support to senior engineering staff by focusing on the detailed engineering design and allowing the senior staff to focus on project management and delivery.

As such you form a vital part of the engine room of the company by ensuring the detailed engineering designs and documentation are completed on time, correctly and to relevant guidelines and standards.

You will be the main point of liaison with the client design team in the development of the engineering design for committed projects, and you will support the senior engineer in being able to achieve client expectations.

You will be responsible for developing comprehensive 3D models and fabrication drawing packages for manufacturing of hydraulic innovation products. The Design role is to develop and prepare engineering drawings, plans, diagrams or layouts from engineering sketches. Work closely with, Engineers and other Drafters to ensure that the coordination design effort is maintained.

Goals of the Role

As a Technical Designer/3D Draftsperson, you will be responsible for creating comprehensive 2D drawings and 3D models. This documentation will be used for resolving designs, and ultimately for the fabrication and construction of various design projects.

To ensure that all detailed engineering designs and documentation are as follows:

  • Produced consistently to Sparks & Partners drawing standards
  • All calculations are recorded in the relevant project folder in accordance with Sparks & Partners ISO9001 policy
  • Ensure all completed designs are QA checked by senior staff at key project milestones;

To ensure communication of timing of deliverables is provided daily to the senior engineer. Any variations to the project timing and deliverables are to be identified to the senior engineer within 24hrs of becoming aware.

What You Need to Succeed

You will be required to work within our team of Engineers, Technical Designer/Draftspersons and alongside our project and manufacturing team to successfully deliver outcomes within required timelines. You will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a 3D design, drafting or digital fabrication related field
  • As a minimum a degree or higher qualification in a Design, Architectural, or mechanical related discipline or equivalent and relevant industry experience
  • Strong analytical skills and efficient problem-solving of construction details
  • Excellent written and verbal cross-discipline communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate complex information through line-drawings and/or renderings
  • An ability to understand and turn design sketches or other conceptual mediums into detailed fabrication drawings
  • A fundamental understanding of materials and manufacturing processes across a broad range of production types
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Autocad as a minimum, additional software proficiencies will be viewed favourably, eg. Revit, solidworks, 3D max, Parametric definition building in Grasshopper
  • Whilst not required, an ability to implement automation and algorithm design within a scripting language will make you a stand out candidate.
  • Knowledge of digital fabrication and CNC machinery is highly desirable
  • Experience in the development of complex 3D models and curvatures, the use of Sheet Metal Tools and adaption of DXF's for laser-cutting and other fabrication processes
