The Role

This is an opportunity to lead a team focused on delivering vibrant self-sustaining communities, that are; accessible, functional, safe and well connected.

The City of Whittlesea is one of Melbourne's fastest growing and culturally diverse municipalities just 20kms north of the CBD.

Reporting to the Manager of City Design & Transport, you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled and integrated team of professionals who collectively administers and provides oversight to the engineering approvals and construction surveillance functions of the City’s new developments in our growth and established areas, with a particular focus on:

 

  • Providing high quality, timely, innovative and solution focused engineering approvals in relation to the planning of civil infrastructure development proposals.

 

  • Ensuring engineering solutions are implemented innovatively within a growth area and planning context, and in accordance with approved planning policy, strategy and engineering best practice.

  

About you

Ideally qualified in Civil Engineering and/or land development, with experience in working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, handling a busy workload, strong writing skills, understanding of the local government engineering, planning and reporting frameworks, is key to your success in this role.

 

 Key selection Criteria

 

  1. Recognised tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and proven knowledge and experience in conceiving flexible and innovative solutions to complex engineering problems in the areas of urban development and subdivision engineering design and construction.
  2. Proven leadership skills in managing and leading high performance teams in a technical/engineering environment to deliver high quality and efficient outcomes
  3. Proven ability to lead, influence and gain cooperation from staff, clients and members of the public to build cooperative and productive relationships.
  4. An understanding of the forward planning process for the growth areas and ability to provide high level of engineering input into the planning for infrastructure at all stages of the urban development process.
  5. Proven ability to project manage multiple activities; to plan and organise work and to achieve realistic timetables and objectives, with sound budgeting and financial management skills
  6. Highly developed interpersonal skills, incorporating verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytical and conflict resolution skills
