Hatch is currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer for the Brisbane Office to support the Australia-Asia operations. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Hatch Australian Engineering leadership team and create further growth for our business.  

Your focus will be both outward facing, concentrating on growing our client base by executing challenging projects and enhancing brand recognition, and inward facing, ensuring technical excellence within the existing team. 

We strive to be our clients most trusted advisors and envisage long term repeat business. As such, to be successful in this role, you will require strong technical leadership experience to assist and guide our resource sector Clients to achieve positive outcomes. 

You will be one of the primary advisors for regional governance and sign-off of all projects in the Geotechnical practice within Australia-Asia.  You will be required to connect with Hatch’s global talent to support local and international projects and client opportunities.  Occasionally you will be required to participate in global risk reviews for strategic, high risk or innovative first-of-kind projects in the practice and will help our global leadership team understand and manage these risks appropriately.

You will work alongside our current Civil, Water Resources and Tailings management teams in Australia-Asia with a focus in Queensland and Western Australia principally in the mining and metals business sectors. 

Key Responsibilities of this role will include (but not be limited to):

• Lead the Geotechnical team and execute/manage concept to study level project activities
• Undertake geotechnical analysis and design work in collaboration with Civil engineers, Tailings and Water Resource experts
• Assist generate and grow Hatch's current client base in the Civil, Geotechnical and Tailings space
• Preparation of engineering reports, drawings, specifications, presentations and bill of quantities
• Develop and nurture the technical and soft skills of the Geotechnical team
• Expand the current team – including the recruitment and selection of high value subject matter experts in key areas to increase Hatch’s external reputation
• Communicate projects and business goals with local teams and regional management
• Identify key challenges and opportunities in the geotechnical and mining fields with a focus in Australia
• Write proposals, develop marketing strategies and presentations to deliver to clients
• Provide corporate governance and ultimate sign-off on reports, recommendations and designs
• Undertake technical reviews of documents and technical drawings prepared by the team

Qualifications and Experience considered essential for this role include:

• Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering, or Bachelor of Science (Geology) with a specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering
• Demonstrated, extensive post graduate Geotechnical and industrial Civil or Water Resource management projects experience
• Advanced leadership and interpersonal skills - with proven ability to mentor engineers, scientists, designers and technicians
• Excellent client focus and history of successful business development
• verbal and written English communication skills
• Previous consulting engineering experience
• Highly proficient in MS Office suite of tools
• Good working knowledge of specialized Geotechnical software and modelling
• Ability to travel within Australia-Asia and internationally as required
