About the business

ECS specialise in the the commissioning process of projects which comprises of the integrated application of a set of engineering techniques and procedures to check, inspect and test operational components and prove engineering systems.

Commissioning is applicable to all phases of a project. It starts with conceptual design and extends through detailed design, procurement, construction, and final handover. Then it must be maintained throughout the operation of the asset.

The main objective of commissioning is to effect the safe and orderly handover of the asset from the constructor to the owner, ensuring its operability in terms of performance, reliability, safety, information traceability, energy consumption and maintainability, meet required standards.

Role purpose

This role will make a difference to our business and team in the following ways:

The Commissioning Manager provides guidance and oversight for the commissioning management of the installation, testing and commissioning of building services systems, plant and/or equipment on a project.   This role is engaged in the verification that installed building systems function correctly and operate to maintain the designed building environment. This role will work across multi-disciplinary projects, and requires the possession of a thorough understanding of building services and construction methods, as well as a solid contracting knowledge.

The engineer/manager primarily works independently applying technical knowledge and skills on large/complex projects with assistance from specialist discipline colleagues where this is identified as necessary or relevant. The role also includes business development opportunities and responsibilities with expectations for the development and growth of ECS within the market.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide input for job costing, e.g. weekly time sheets, progress claims, work percentage complete, forecast work required.
  • Produce time plans for your project in consultation with your Resource Manager and co-ordinate your commitments to meet project deadlines and cost requirements.
  • Be able to undertake a review of the basis of services design and their design intent, and provide advice/comment to design teams on items that may impact on commissioning.
  • Understand the requirements and intent of the CIBSE Commissioning Codes, BSRIA Application Guides, ASHRAE Guidelines, and other relevant commissioning codes and guidelines.
  • Understand the process and relevant criteria required to achieve all relevant Green Star credit points.
  • Prepare Commissioning Plans and other process documents, for the management of the commissioning of building services systems, including (but not limited to) mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire and BMCS systems.
  • Be capable & confident with on-site review of commissioning and performance testing to verify that it is carried out in accordance with specifications and programme. Review and comment on the technical content of contractor test results

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years engineering experience across the full project lifecycle and responsibility for delivering projects within Building Services.
  • Experience of working in a construction environment on-site
  • Working with multiple stakeholders in a complex environment.
  • Functioning effectively and efficiently on multiple projects and delegating tasks as appropriate
  • Coordination with internal and external consultants and disciplines.
  • Delivering a construction project through commissioning, acceptance and into occupation
  • Well developed understanding of Project Stages and Delivery methods
