About the region:
The Torres Strait Islands are located in Far North Queensland, scattered between Cape York Peninsula and Papua New Guinea. With beautiful, untouched beaches, a visit to the Torres Strait Islands will make you think you've left Australia for another Pacific Island paradise. The surrounding reefs create diverse habitats for several sea turtle species and the strong currents provide excellent fishing opportunities. Flights to the islands leave Cairns every day.

An excellent and rewarding opportunity has become available for an experienced and qualified Project Engineer to join our Engineering Services Team. The position is responsible for project management and professional input into engineering design and construction of civil works projects to deliver high quality and best value outcomes for the community and to undertake reporting and project tracking to enable achievement of project objectives in accordance with funding guidelines and requirements.
Travel to the Torres Strait Islands is a requirement of the position..
Are you the right person for the job?
To be considered for this position, you must possess:
- Possession of Bachelor level qualifications in Civil Engineering or related discipline, highly regarded.
- Minimum 3 years design and/or project management experience in civil works projects.
- Possession of Diploma in Civil Engineering along with significant relevant experience.
- Eligibility for Membership of Engineers Australia (or equivalent Professional Institution) would be highly regarded.
- Previous experience in design and/or civil project management position in a multi-disciplinary or major single function organisation would be highly regarded.
- Previous engineering experience in a rural or remote area would be high desirable.
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of languages specific to the Torres Strait including Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya and Creole would be highly desirable.
