Our client is a state Government organisation within the Transport sector who have recently identified an urgent need for a Heritage Officer to support and enable Sydney Trains to meet legislative requirements of the Heritage Act 1977 and NSW Heritage Council State Agency Heritage Guide.
 
Key accountabilities: 
 
  1. Excute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with Sydney Trains safety management system requirements which are defined in SMS document number SMS-02-RG-3058.
  2. Heritage database administrator for the corporate S170 Heritage & Conservation Register, including significance assessment, research and archiving of heritage records;
  3. Development and administration of collections management processes for small objects, historic records and movable heritage including assessment of heritage significance of movable heritage items proposed for relocation, acquisition or disposal;
  4. Archival management of historic records and data relating to Sydney Trains heritage assets; 
  5.    Provide positive and responsive customer service to internal and external stakeholders and advocate best-practice heritage outcomes for Sydney Trains heritage assets.
 
Challenges:
 
  • Providing expert advice on heritage matters and ensuring compliance given the need to interpret and understand the range of complex projects, range of different asset classes, business needs and heritage legislative requirements within an operational rail environment;
  • Supporting organisational change and supporting delivery of Government program milestones whilst ensuring compliance and managing the range of internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Ability to undertake administrative roles and deliver medium-term strategic projects, whilst also responding to day-to-day requests for advice and support.
 
Selection Criteria: 
 
  • Tertiary qualifications in museum studies, heritage management (or aligned field);
  • Experience in heritage collections management, registration and bets-practice movable heritage procedures and processes;
  • Knowledge of heritage database systems and Excel spreadsheet data for buildings, places and objects of heritage significance;
  • Proven ability and skills in historical research, archive management, and heritage significance assessment;
  • Strong and responsive customer service focus, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities to provide timely advice to meet business deadlines;
  • Proven planning, problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work through issues with moderate complexity and guide and/or coach others in the resolution of problems; and
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to engage with, influence and build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
