We are pleased to be recruiting for South32 at their GEMCO operation on Groote Eylandt for a Hydrologist.
The Role:
Reporting into the Superintendent for Production and Planning you will be responsible for short term planning for the operation to enable effective Production, Mining, Processing and Logistics activities. The purpose of the role is to engage and seek production mining stakeholder feedback input into water management design and scheduling. To ensure production targets are met you will develop detailed production plans and provide clear instructions.
Responsibilities include however are not limited to:
• Develop and communicate the GEMCO water strategy
• Develop pit watering strategies
• Conduct rainfall-runoff and statistical analysis
• GIS mapping, water balance, hydrological and hydraulic modelling
• Proactively manage the GEMCO water management capital plan
• Develop and manage the Mining Management plan and Operational Performance plan
• Design and selection of pipelines, fittings and pumps to maximise pit dewatering capability
• Delivery of weekly-annual pit dewatering strategies
• Provide mine design and guidance to all stakeholders
About you:
The successful candidate will bring 5 years+ in a similar role within the mining industry. A solid understanding of hydraulic and flood modelling together with engineering design in civil construction/mining operations is essential.
Additionally, you will possess:
• A Tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent
• Proficiency in Goldsim modelling environment
• Sound knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Vulcan, and specialist modelling software (e.g
HEC-RAS, TUFLOW,MIKE, XPSWMM)
You will possess a strong commitment to safety, health and environmental principles and procedures in the workplace. You will be an individual who actively participates in team engagement and collaboration sessions and takes accountability.
