Role Overview

We are currently looking for a seasoned Systems Engineer with particular strengths in Requirements Engineering, to join the Solutions & Technologies team at Silverwater. The individual will report to the Manager, Solutions & Technologies, supporting proposals and projects across the ME-APAC region and partnering teams on a global basis where necessary.

To be considered for this role you must be a strong team player with 7+ years’ experience, with a majority being in Systems Engineering with a focus on Requirements Engineering. You must have a passion for, and a desire to stay abreast with the latest innovations in simulation systems and technologies across CAE and Industry. Through your learning and experience you understand the nuances of physical training systems architectures and that technology is just one of the enablers of the System that best meets the customers’ needs. You have come to realise that architecting the right Solutions requires first understanding and translating the customers’ needs into a balanced requirements structure that encompasses not just functional and performance aspects but also usability, safety, reliability, interoperability and supportability requirements, towards establishing a holistic system functional architecture. You recognise the importance of, and possess the competencies to define and manage the system functional architecture and its mapping into a system physical architecture, including the production of compliance matrices during the proposal phase and in the requirements traceability matrices and verification cross references matrices through project execution. You also recognise the importance of ongoing management of the functional baseline as a core component of the System through its operational life of use, maintenance and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • lead the requirements elicitation, development and management activities during the proposal phase, responsible for the importing of tender documents, creation and management of compliance matrices, and establishment of the requirements management framework to enable an immediate transition to project execution
  • support the development of proposal and project specifications related to user needs and requirements, such as the System Specification, Interface Specifications and Sub-System Specifications
  • manage the requirements framework (database in DOOR’s) to establish and ensure bi-directional traceability between the functional and physical architectures and with any associated reference data and documentation
  • define and manage the upkeep of project requirements,  the requirements traceability matrix (RTM), and the verification cross-reference matrix (VCRM) through project execution, in support of the engineering team and for project systems reviews (such as SRR’s PDR’s DDR;s TRR’s) as applicable, and on through upgrades during sustainment
  • support the development of non-technical specifications and reports, such as compliancy status, statements of work (SOW), project plans and/or data requirements lists
  • define and manage requirements related templates and tools in support of proposals and projects in accordance with industry best-practice standards and with CAE’s quality management systems
  • stay abreast with advances and systems engineering best practices with a particular focus on requirements engineering, and with applicable tools and systems
  • Contribute to realising CAE’s ME-APAC vision to be the Simulation & Training and Systems Integrator Partner of Choice

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • A firm belief in the value that Systems Engineering and Modeling & Simulation bring to improving the quality of life through delivering efficient and effective solutions, and in a team culture built on passion, respect and trust
  • 7 years+ Systems Engineering experience with a major focus on Requirements Engineering across the capability life-cycle, from proposals, to execution to sustainment
  • Ability to define a sound functional architecture that encompasses the user needs scope holistically across technical, nontechnical, organizational, quality and sustainment aspects
  • Ability to translate and map the user’s needs to define effective and efficient, standards compliant, physical architectures that employ the right technology and support systems that integrates with existing fielded technologies and sustainment paradigms
  • Strong experience in the use of requirements management tools (e.g. IBM DOORS) and/or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – oral, written, presentation – able to engage with customers to understand their operational and problem context
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and persuasive communications for multiple audiences, including demonstrating effective writing and presentation skills, active listening skills; projecting an image of confidence and trust
  • Self-starter qualities, able to work unsupervised and rapidly come up to speed with relatively large and complex technologies and products
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in an engineering and/or technical discipline (Systems Engineering highly regarded)
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and abroad
