ABOUT THE ROLE 

WGE is a multi-discipline engineering company specializing in consulting engineering of building services such as; electrical, mechanical, fire, hydraulics, civil, structural, vertical transport, specialist lighting, AV and ICT services.

Due to continued growth our Audio Visual division is seeking an experienced AV Engineer to join our professional team. The position reports directly to the Audio Visual Project Engineer who heads up the AV section within the Electrical team at WGE Melbourne. The position is predominantly a technical role taking lead of project design, documentation, review and operations across local and other State offices.

You will be working closely day to day and collaborating with many other Engineering teams within Melbourne and other interstate offices for the production and coordination of technical engineering documentation for Audio Visual projects including client briefs, reports, specifications, budgets, sketches and data sheets.

Confident advanced AV design skills and experience in building services consulting industry are an essential component to this role.

AUDIO VISUAL WORK WILL INCLUDE:

The AV industry is forever evolving however typical day-to-day AV work will include; audio sound reinforcement systems, visual display systems, control systems, hearing assistance systems, projection systems, digital video matrix switching, digital audio processing, digital signage, IPTV, MATV, video conferencing. Ideally you will be very familiar with typical AV calculations such as viewing distance to image size ratios, contrast levels, sound pressure (SPL) & loudspeaker dispersion.

Some experience with ICT network communications as well as electrical distribution theory and calculation of power requirements and heat loads. As AV often deals with physical environments a general knowledge of acoustics, lighting, thermal dynamics, DDA legislation, room layouts and ergonomics would be advantageous.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide Audio Visual technical design and documentation as directed by the Audio Visual Project Engineer.
  • Participation in technology investigation and direction for audio visual services ensuring the currency and validity of design strategies and technology roadmaps.
  • Evaluation and adoption of new technologies and tools as opportunities for innovation and improvements arise.
  • Adoption of WGE design & documentation methods and strategies.
  • Development and maintain ownership of AV documentation, standards, reviews, QA and output for assigned projects throughout the lifecycle. Participate in site meetings including; during inception, design, implementation and construction phases up as well as commissioning, defects, handover and follow-up stages.
  • Taking direction and instruction from the AV Project Engineer for each specific project requirements and taking responsibility for project development and documentation.
  • Lead and collaborate with other engineering teams for production of fully coordinated AV engineering documentation.
  • Production, development and output of AV floorplan layouts, RCP layouts, technical schematic diagrams, specialized layouts such as elevations, sections and expanded details, reports and specifications.
  • There may be a requirement to work additional hours to support the project timelines as well as some Interstate work if and when required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proactive self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Degree, tertiary or diploma qualified in Electronics / Communications / Instrumentation or equivalent demonstrated qualifications and/or experience within the Audio Visual engineering industry.
  • Audio Visual Certified Technology Specialist (minimum; Infocomm CTS and working towards CST-D).
  • Demonstrate leadership in audio visual projects and technologies at an enterprise level, commercial or education environments.
  • Experience in complex audio visual platforms involving audio and video processing, distribution, switching, scaling, control system architecture and ICT integration.
  • Experience in vendor training schemes EG; Crestron, AMX, Biamp, QSC, Clear One, Polycom, Cisco, Extron, Kramer, SVSi etc.
  • Previous experience in any or multiple AV sectors such as; education, commercial fitout, building services engineering, live production events, studio recording, video recording/editing, radio & TV broadcast, AV installations or AV consulting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced with desktop applications such as; MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio as well as CAD and Bluebeam. Revit knowledge and experience would be an advantage.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take direction and work well with senior engineering staff also when unsupervised.
