About the business

Wittenbaker Engineering Services (WES) is a fast growing diverse company which is strategically located in Henderson within close proximity to the Australian Marine Complex. WES specialises in the manufacture and repair of mining, rail, marine, power generation and oil & gas equipment. WES is currently in search of a highly motivated Workshop Manager with strong experiences in CNC-Machining, basic experience in fabrication and excellent organisational skills.

About the role

  • Responsible for efficiently & effectively managing the Company workshop in Henderson.
  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment for all workers & visitors at all times.
  • Deliver a high quality and after sales service that includes dissemination, training, repairs, machining & fabrication.
  • Liaising with Workshop Foreman & Programmers.
  • Coaching & mentoring workshop staff, promoting a positive work culture.
  • Schedule work according to machine load, lead time and available operators, with consideration to an individuals skill set.
  • Plans and Manage daily general activities of the workshop.
  • Monitor and track the development of apprentices
  • Continually track jobs to ensure key delivery dates are achieved.
  • Manage and promote preventative maintenance schedules, inspections & prestarts
  • Provide operational reports (weekly & monthly) pertaining to key performance indicators.
  • Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements.
  • Job analysis and reviews throughout the job/project and at completion.
  • Expediting of jobs.
  • The Workshop Manager provides direction & guidance to the Apprentices, Machinists, Programmer, Leading Hands, Fabricators and Storeman.
  • Write procedures to work towards our Quality System, reporting and updating progress to the Operations Manager
  • Provide measured input towards workshop efficiency improvements.
  • The Workshop Manager reports to the Operations Manager and receives electronic, written & verbal instructions.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and key features:

  • Minimum 10 years trade experience in CNC-Machining is essential
  • Minimum 3 years experience in fabrication of steel structures
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a management role
  • Extensive knowledge in metal cutting methodologies
  • Creativity for CNC Jigs, Fixtures, and Work Holding Solutions for milling and turning machines
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standard AS1554 Part 5
  • Strong understanding of fabrication procedures such as WPS & WPQR
  • Able to meticulously read any type of drawing and plan the schedule of activities
  • Able to estimate manufacturing costs and production time
  • Meticulously read and understand material codes and data sheets
  • Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Very good understanding of mathematics and physics
  • Very good understanding and use of mechanical calculations
  • Work fast and efficiently 
  • Excellent written, verbal and general communication skills
  • Excellent work ethics
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Demonstrate safe work practices
  • Reliable transportation
