The position is responsible for providing specialist engineering and technology support to the Capral Group in the field of extrusion technology and extrusion processes, planning and implementation of projects in the areas of automation, cost reduction, productivity and quality improvements.  The incumbent will drive and implement operational excellence through planning, scheduling and prioritisation of extrusion projects and engineering operations.

Primary Accountabilities:

• Assist in the development of a 5 year technological strategic plan as set by the General Manager  to meet Capral Group business objectives
• Develop and implement project timelines; maintain capital budgets for new products and equipment, technology inclusive of decommission / commission and trial of new plant technology to evaluate cost, operational effectiveness and feasibility
• Oversee all aspects of capital expenditure through to project leadership of installations to ensure a continual high standard of operating equipment
• Continuous review of new materials, processes and procedures to enhance and improve upon current extrusion lines and machines; includes evaluation and improvement of fabrication tools, methods, equipment and processes
• Coordinate and assist in the implementation of specific improvement projects for individual plants, inclusive of project budgets, schedule project timelines, arrange for resources and also help in solving technical problems as and when needed
• Provide specialist technical / technology support on extrusions, new technologies, co-extrusions, and tolerances
• Manage environmental responsibilities in accordance with guidelines including statutory reporting, emission monitoring and waste management
• Lead and develop a performance focussed culture, and enhance the flexibility of skills and knowledge within Capral’s workforce
• Oversee the compilation of all documentation for specifications, testing and development of engineering projects
• Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditure, and making informed decisions regarding the purchase of materials and / or services
• Project and stakeholder relationship management including the development of relationships with suppliers
• Keep abreast of global extrusion technology development and develop and maintain an international network

Essential Skills:

• Advanced / Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and / or Technical field with a minimum of 10 years’ experience within a similar aluminium extrusion role
• Extensive experience and comprehensive knowledge of equipment installation commissioning and decommissioning of extrusion plant, particularly extrusion presses
• Must be detail orientated, have strong organisational skills and be able to manage multiple large scale projects in an extrusion environment
• Well-developed communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively with operational teams and technology providers
• Proven experience in people management with the ability to develop and train others
• Extensive experience in modern manufacturing practices and technologies and be able to demonstrate a strong focus and results orientation towards world’s best practice is required
• Ability to travel interstate and between Capral sites (as and when required).
