About ANSTO

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) is home to Australia’s nuclear science and technical expertise. More than 1000 scientists, engineers and experts work at ANSTO and use nuclear science and technology to answer the big questions in the world around us – improving health outcomes, increasing our understanding of the environment and climate change and identifying new opportunities for Australian industry.

We operate much of our country’s landmark science facilities including one of the world’s most modern nuclear research reactors (OPAL) and four world class particle accelerators in the Centre for Accelerator Science (CAS). Our accelerator facilities provide analysis techniques that can be applied to solve important environmental, health and materials issues in Australia and around the world. We work closely with our industrial and scientific partners and collaborators to provide valued data from a wide range of accelerator based capabilities.

About the position

Our team is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and development of the four ANSTO particle accelerators and associated scientific infrastructure. You will report to the Manager, Accelerator Systems and Development Group who leads a motivated team of technical and engineering specialists. The team is ready to help you learn about accelerator systems and teach you skills that will increase your in-depth knowledge of accelerators and associated systems including vacuum engineering, ion sources, magnetism, and 3D drafting to complement the mechanical engineering qualifications and expertise that you will already have. The Centre for Accelerator Science creates opportunities for career development that will benefit you and ANSTO into the future.

To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate your attention to detail, fault finding and problem solving skills, and ability to adhere to strict protocols and guidelines at all times. It is critical that our team works together so both written and verbal communication and strong team work skills are essential.

“This is a great opportunity to work in a team of highly skilled and motivated people on some of the most exciting and interesting scientific equipment in Australia.
This role is where you can grow as a technician and develop skills and knowledge that will benefit you and ANSTO well into the future. You will be surrounded by enthusiastic personnel who uphold safety and quality equally in one of the largest scientific facilities in Australia.” - David Garton, Accelerator Systems and Development Group Manager
