AME is a global consultancy with over 48 years in the commodities industry, specialising in Oil & Gas, Metals and Mining. With offices in Sydney and London, we provide the bridge between the complexity of on-site engineering and commercial reality. Our clients gain real, actionable insight with our engineering models, financial models, valuations and market analysis.

We are currently looking to expand our Research team and are looking for candidates with a strong operational background in the Steel Industry. Applicants with 3-5 years of operations experience coupled with an engineering degree (preferably chemical/process engineering, or metallurgy) are encouraged to apply.

The Steel Analyst will work closely with the existing team of engineers to analyse Steel operations across the globe and provide valuable insight on the Mining Industry to our clients. Your primary role will be completing site-by-site research and analysis on Steel operations using your technical understanding and writing insightful and engaging reports for our clients and social media followers.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have sound knowledge of the commodities, metals and/or mining industries (in particular, Steel), coupled with strong client service/management skills and commercial acumen. The ability to think critically whilst maintaining high levels of attention to detail is paramount.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Performing project assessments, compiling information and preparing research products
  • Report writing
  • Delivering credible and insightful analysis
  • Critically appraising projects and contributing to market analysis
  • Developing industry and project knowledge
  • Building and refining in-house engineering and financial models

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in engineering or project roles with experience in the steel industry. Exposure to coke making, sintering, blast furnace ironmaking, BOF or EAF steelmaking, continuous casting, refractories, rolling mills, or coating lines will be viewed favourably.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemical/Process Engineering, Mining Engineering or Metallurgy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present information in formal or informal settings to all levels of an organisation
  • A genuine interest in the commercial side of the sector

  • This role is based in the Sydney CBD.
