UGL is a member of the CIMIC Group, one of the world’s leading international contractors and the world’s largest contract miner. By joining UGL as a QA/QC Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with an industry leader, gain invaluable experience and have the support to strive for more in your career. Due to a new contract win this a newly created position with UGL and will be offered as a permanent contract based on site in the Peel region supporting a leading metals manufacturer. We’re looking for a someone who can implement and maintain quality assurance systems onsite to support our growing portfolio.  This your opportunity to own and design quality control procedures in line with UGL policy and international standards. 


Working closely with the client, site teams and the wider UGL group you will a subject matter expect in relation to site quality and welding procedures ensuring work is completed to a high quality in a safe, cost effective and timely manner. 


Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Ensure all QA/QC is carried out in accordance with UGL, client and statutory requirements
  • Provide instruction and guidance to supervisors on the work scope in regard to QA/QC including welding specifications
  • Provide technical, quality and welding advice regarding process / consumable selection, productivity and troubleshooting for the Site Support Team
  • Ensure work is carried out as per work instructions, test plans and checklists
  • Provide updates on the status of welding works on site
  • Maintain and promote the Quality Management System
  • Carry out Quality audits to ensure compliance
  • Prepare reports, routines and records associated with the site / project works
  • Develop and manage the qualification of welding processes
  • Develop and manage the training and qualification of welders
  • Facilitate development and ongoing review of management procedures and associated instructions and record requirements and ensure such procedures shall comply with the intent of AS/NZS IS09001
  • Assess and report on system performance and facilitate review of system suitability and effectiveness, on a basis of initiating ongoing improvement

This is a key position within UGL and as a result we’re looking for: 

  • Proven experience developing in ISO 9001 quality management systems including audits
  • Multi-disciplinary experience in fabrication and construction, ideally including process industries, petro-chemical and mining 
  • Tertiary qualified in a related engineering discipline with qualification and experience in welding meeting AS 1796 Certificate 10 or AS 2214 standards in welding supervision
  • Able to build relationships with our client and site managers to ensure effective operations and quick resolution to problems
