Geelong Fire Services Pty is part of the Firesafe Group Pty Ltd, a leading provider of Fire Alarm and wet-fire protection systems to Tier 1 clients in the Construction, Mining, Resources and Government sectors in both Western Australia and Victoria.

Geelong Fire provides all aspects of fire protection, including Dry fire alarm and detection systems, Wet fire sprinkler systems, water mist and deluge, Special Hazard Foam and gas suppression systems.

Additionally, our Service & Maintenance team offer inspection, test and repair services for all types of active and passive fire suppression systems.

We do have established Offices in South Melbourne and Geelong.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to prepare detailed technical designs and documentation for wet fire suppression systems in accordance with requirements of Australian Standards, Building Code of Australia or as specified by a Fire Safety Engineer.

This role could provide a pathway to more challenging senior roles for the right applicant.

The role is based in our South Melbourne office.

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate with Management and the Estimating team in designing projects
  • Assist in the development of designing wet fire systems using Autocad and REVIT
  • Development of REVIT families
  • Review drawings for compliance with relevant Australian Standards, make modifications if required
  • Identify variations due to design changes relating to the project
  • Prepare shop drawings inclusive of dimensions, pipe heights, fittings pipe supports etc
  • Provide cutting sheets for fabrication
  • Develop material list for the project
  • Attend all coordination meetings on a regular basis throughout the duration of each project
  • Carry out hydraulic calculations using Hyena for review by the third party certifier
  • Submit GFS drawings for approval to builders, consultants, 3rd party certifier and Fire Brigade Authority as required.  Address comments from these authorities and seek further approval
  • Assist in the preparation of As-Built Drawings upon completion of project·    

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

To comply with the requirements of the Act and related OHS procedures developed by GFS or the individual business unit.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma of Fire Systems Design (Ideal)
  • Tertiary Studies in Mechanical Engineering or Architecture (preferable)
  • Valid and current Drivers Licence and own transport or means of transport to work locations or sites as required by the role

Skills:

  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of employment experience using REVIT and relevant experience in the Australian fire protection market.  Must have experience in the design, application, installation, and testing of the systems.
  • Knowledge of the fire protection industry codes and pipe design is also essential
  • Ability to focus on delivery and demonstrate excellent communication with stakeholders on all levels both within the company and externally
  • Must have the ability to at times work autonomously, be able to solve problems, find solutions and overcome barriers to ensure the project design targets are met
  • Excellent communication skills in all forms, able to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders and fellow work colleagues
  • Be able to work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
