About Our Role

Due to continuing strong growth, our Brisbane CBD based team has a need for a Technical Director Tailings Engineer to complement our existing Tailing and Mine Waste team. GHD has a significant profile across Australia in Tailings Management and mine waste services for Tier 1 mining clients.

The successful applicant will be a degree qualified Civil or Geotechnical engineer with a minimum of 15 years’ of relevant experience. You will have a proven track record in project and technical delivery, mentoring team members and the ability to create strong relationships with clients.

Key responsibilities:

• Technical leadership, often in multi-disciplinary teams, for planning, feasibility studies and detailed design project phases
• Tailings dam design including earth and concrete dam foundations, embankment dam stability, hydraulic analysis, water balance, deposition planning, groundwater analysis 
• Significant experience in scoping and delivery geotechnical investigations
• Undertaking dam safety inspections
• Dam safety risk assessments  
• Provide construction certification and field engineering for tailings storage facility projects
• Client relationship development, both nationally and internationally using your established networks
• Mentor and train other GHD staff 

About You

Successful candidates will ideally possess the following skills and experience

• Substantial experience in Tailings Dams and mine waste engineering is essential, ideally in a consulting environment
• You will have excellent communication skills, be proactive, innovative, and take pride in producing quality work
• You will be able to direct and manage small to medium project teams and work within the wider GHD tailings and dams’ community on larger projects
• Connected network across the industry
• RPEQ accreditation, or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Detailed knowledge of ANCOLD, ICOLD and other industry guidelines
• Broad range of experience in planning, design and construction phase services
• Experience in leading a project team for Tailings storage facility planning, investigation and design Computer knowledge and skills relevant to Geotechnical and dam engineering analyses
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and strong technical background
• Demonstrated communication skills and commercial acumen

Qualifications 

The successful applicant will possess relevant qualifications in civil engineering (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering). Postgraduate qualifications will be favorably considered.
