The Client

On the search for an experienced project engineer with a well respected Telecommunications Company heavily involved in the NBN rollout in Australia.

My client has developed a reputation for consistently delivering within the telecommunications construction sector in Melbourne. They are looking at expanding there team and wanting the right person to be able to hit the ground running.

The Role

To oversee and deliver an area of the project, ensuring construction is in accordance with documentation, specification and subcontractor scopes of works, to quality and HSE standards and in accordance with programme.

The Project Engineer works to meet or exceed client requirements, project objectives and statutory commitments in accordance with the Project Management Plan (PMP) and subsequent Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental management plans and procedures. Experience with FTTC or FTTB is preferred.

The Responsibilities

  • Execute project quality, OHS and environmental management plans, all other technical procedures and inspection and test plans to ensure all engineering and construction aspects of the project are covered.
  • Assist Area Construction Manager to identify plant, equipment and material requirements.
  • Drive performance of all critical activities including critical paths and milestones.
  • Provide input for maintaining area programme for trades and sequencing.
  • Interface with customer field and project management staff on project delivery issues and program achievement.
  • Actively work with the Scheduler on resource inputs and program compliance. Provide updates and information as required to meet program needs.
  • Manage supervisors and subcontractors to ensure project milestones are achieved
  • Cost Control
  • Identify cost minimisation opportunities that can reduce labour, plant and equipment, materials and transportation costs.
  • Identify scope and communicate Variations to subcontractors. Ensure variation registers are up to date and accurate to the works.
  • Ensure work activities are performed in accordance with safe work methods, ITPs and that checklists are undertaken prior to commencement of activities on site.
  • Review and provide feedback on adequacy of Scopes of Work.
  • Provide technical support and assist resolution of issues and non-conformances.
  • Evaluate and inspect works, log defects and supervise rectifications.
  • Organize site inductions when required.
  • Assist procurement personnel with purchasing appropriate plant, materials and equipment.
  • Ensure resources delivered to the project are inspected for compliance to the procurement order.
  • Conduct constructability reviews with designers and others to ensure safety and construction suitability.
  • Maintain site records and daily site diaries documenting all aspects of the project’s events, dates and responses.
  • Provide input in the evaluation of relevant aspects of the program upon completion to the Area Construction Manager.
  • Provide feedback concerning the performance of site personnel as required to the Area Construction Manager.
  • Manage the submission of completion documentation to the defined timeframe and arrange for defects to be rectified.

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualifications (Engineering Degree) in an applicable discipline
  • Knowledge of construction, project and program controls principles and practices
  • Excellent understanding and interpretation of construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Detailed knowledge of project scheduling.
  • Construction Industry Induction Card (Whitecard)
