We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Firmware Engineer to join our Xtralis team. 

The Firmware Team Leader provides technical leadership, design, development, validation and maintenance expertise of software in various electronics technology products within the New Technology Group of Xtralis’ Fire and Environmental Business Unit. With strong software engineering and problem solving skills, the role supports other software engineers whose primary activity is to develop products.

The role owns the PC software and embedded firmware deliverables and quality outcomes for the R&D Projects. This also includes PC software development in support of the embedded product. Detailed responsibilities are for the entire lifecycle from requirements through systems engineering, firmware design and to successful transition to manufacturing through the most efficient means possible to target on quality, functionality, performance, cost and schedule. This includes adherence to and improvement of R&D processes and systems to meet regulatory requirements during product introduction and ongoing compliance.

To succeed in this key role, you will be tertiary qualified in an engineering discipline (i.e. electrical/ electronic/ mechatronic/ IT or similar) with exceptional Firmware capabilities and strong mathematical skills. Further experience will include: experience developing software for technical users; experience evaluating software and systems together with ability to identify areas for modification and experience in working within established Product Development processes in a cross-functional team.

You will demonstrate a strong background and extensive experience in design-for-manufacture principles; extensive knowledge of, and experience in high-tech manufacturing environments and quality standards as well as extensive experience in the design, characterisation, assessment and implementation of systems level deployment including testing, fault-finding, firmware de-bugging and component-level rework. Lastly, you should have a detailed understanding of software engineering processes; C++ programming skills and knowledge of technical specifications creation and test plans
