The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the preferred contractor for construction, which will begin in 2018 following planning assessment.
About the Project
The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:
- Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
- Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
- Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
- Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne; and
- Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.
Tunnel Design Coordinator
We are interested in hearing from Tunnel Engineers with Design Coordination experience ranging from 5 to 10 years. You will act as the interface between the construction team and our design partners. You will analyse the statical properties of all types structures, test the behaviour and durability of materials used in their construction, and design and supervise the construction of these structures.
Typical skills and responsibilities
- Assist the Tunnel Design Manager to plan and control the delivery of construction design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and profit objective
- Coordinate the interaction of project members in the design delivery process, including design, construction, planning and environmental resources
- Analysing structural systems for both static and dynamic loads
- Monitor and evaluate the work of designers allocated to the design to ensure that their progress meets requirements
- Assist in the design approval process by coordinating issue resolution
- Designing structures to ensure they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways
- Work in conjunction with the Tunnel Design Manager around project resourcing
- Assist with client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
- Manage work and performance of subcontractors with design responsibility.
Qualifications
Tertiary (Bachelor) qualification in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering. Post-graduate qualifications are an advantage.
Experience
- Similar role on large TBM projects
- Tier1/2 background
- Have worked mainly on the contracting side of mega-projects
- Knowledge of project management structures, plans, standards, specifications and implications for project accountabilities.
