My client is a leading mechanical engineering contractor with in house civil engineering capability and a diverse client base. They offer construction, maintenance and industrial services to the manufacturing, resources, complex infrastructure and industrial sectors.

They currently seek two Junior Project Managers to work on site on recently secured projects.

The roles

Working in and around CBD Melbourne, we seek someone who's able to undertake the full range of a Project Manager accountabilities.

Project 1: 

Approx $45m project in Yarraville. Scope includes Civil and Mechanical works. First work package is $200k.

Project 2: 

Approx $20m project in Tullamarine. Scope includes Civil and Mechanical works. First work package is $180-200k.

Initially the work packages are not overly large so this is an ideal opportunity for a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer to step up into a Jnr Project Manager role and take full ownership of a project.

The better you do on your first work package, the more chance you will have of securing ongoing and much larger scopes of work.

You will be required to undertake the full range of a Project Managers responsibilities, from: preparing safety and construction documentation; to procurement; tracking and forecasting against a construction budget; liaising with the client; investigating services/utilities and issuing internal permits to work; maintaining a rolling program with the supervisor; QA; Contract Administration; daily cost control; weekly and monthly reporting.

You will have assistance in the 'back end' commercial functions of your role from corporate HQ, with the ability to call upon support services such as the Commercial Administrator, Contracts Administrator, Legal Counsel and HSEQ professionals as required.

Apart from ensuring safety on site at all times, your key objective is to ensure that contractual profitability and obligations are met and maintained by managing and delivering the objectives of the project - ensuring on time and on budget completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpret and read relevant technical specifications / plans
  • Prepare, manage and track budgets and financial reports
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to build relationships and assist with the delivery of the project objectives
  • Actively solve problems and implement corrective actions relating to the ongoing management of projects
  • Investigate services/utilities
  • Obtain permits to work
  • Help prepare a construction budget, communicating this information (including production targets required to meet budget) clearly and concisely to the Supervisor
  • Identify and manage Risks & Opportunities
  • Maintain a rolling 2-week program & resource plan with the Supervisors
  • Contract Administration
  • Client correspondence
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting

About you

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have at least 4 years post-grad site based Australian experience
  • Be tertiary qualified in either Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management
  • Be fluent in the Microsoft Office suite of desktop applications and related software packages, with proficiency in Excel and Project a must
  • Have a track record of demonstrating initiative and proactivity
  • Be comfortable in working with Supervisors and holding them accountable to achieve shared objectives
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely
