Liberty OneSteel, part of the GFG Alliance group, operates a world-class state-of-the-art Steelmaking facility based in Laverton. We use local raw materials to produce high quality steel products in partnership with our loyal customers in the local construction and other industries, while building on our proud traditions of technical excellence and team safety.

 

Situated in the western suburbs of Melbourne, our Laverton Steel Mill is part of the Liberty Rod and Bar business and produces around 800,000t of steel rod and bar products per annum. We currently require an experienced Electrical Engineer (B.Eng.) to join our Laverton operation with mission of driving the availability/reliability strategy of the Meltshop. 

 

As a key member of the Laverton Meltshop Maintenance team and reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will primarily be focused on achieving a high rate of sustainable continuous improvement in relation to equipment availability. With a focus on reliability systems, you will drive the continuous improvement strategy for reliability and maintainability of our assets. The three key indicators will be equipment availability (including MTBF), mean time to repair and equipment lifecycle cost in the context of our business environment. You will be reviewing maintenance plans, be part of its implimentation, act as a central figure in captial improvement projects and be part of the aggressive drive to achieve manufacturing excellence. You will also have key technical inputs into the asset management strategy, maintenance plan and asset optimisation of our high voltage equipment and distribution network. It consists amongst other of a Static VAR compensator, 2 x 50MVA primary transformers, a 90 MVA transformer for the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and a 25 MVA transormer for the Ladle Furnace (LF).

 

Our ideal candidate will be an electrical engineer and a maintenance professional, with relevant experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Equally important will be:

 

  • High safety standards as a core value
  • Skills in root cause analysis, HAZOP and FMEA investigations
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Exposure to some form of computer based maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Previous exposure to SAP will be advantageous
