The Company

Our client is a State Government department and due to a high volume of work now require a Drone Operator - Team Leader (Chief Pilot). The purpose of this role is to ensure an operational RPA environment is maintained. This includes but not limited to ensure all RPA flights meets Rail safety standards and CASA regulations, maintaining RPA documents (safety, procedures and standards) and ensuring RPA fleets are maintained and fit for operational use.

The Role

  • Execute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with the organisation's safety management system requirements.
  • Ability to fly and operate a Remote Piloted Aircraft for weight categories of very small (100g - <2kg) to small (2 -<25 kg)
  • Knowledge of the Civil Aviation Safety regulations 1998 (CASR) part 101
  • Ensure maintenance is carried to the operational RPA equipment in accordance to RPA manuals and procedures
  • Ensure RPA manual and procedures are updated and reviewed
  • investigate all defects and repair operational RPA equipment within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure flight logs are kept and updated.
  • Ensure all RPA operations meets RPA operational procedures and complies with the RPA Standard Operation Conditions (SOC)
  • During the RPA operations the Drone Operator must ensure the safety of all staff and ensure the prevention of any damages and/or collision to Sydney Trains asset.
  • The Drone Operator Team Leader must report drone operations to CASA
  • The Drone Operator Team Leader must review and approve all drone operations before the drone operations can begin.

Requirements for the position

  • Hold a valid Remote Pilot License (RePL) for over 3 years
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an RPA Operators Certificate (ReOC)
  • Knowledge of the Civil Aviation Safety regulations 1998 (CASR) part 101 and international RPA standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge in inspecting infrastructure assets using an RPA (i.e Civil infrastructure, Electrical infrastructure, Communications infrastructure)
  • Experience or knowledge of working or operating equipment (plant or otherwise) in a rail environment
  • Experience or knowledge in technological evolution of RPA technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team of RPA pilots
  • Demonstrated experience in using RPA software to manage data retrieved from RPA flights
