Liberty OneSteel, part of the GFG Alliance group, operates a world-class state-of-the-art Steelmaking facility based in Laverton. We use local raw materials to produce high quality steel products in partnership with our loyal customers in the local construction and other industries, while building on our proud traditions of technical excellence and team safety.

Situated in the western suburbs of Melbourne, our Laverton Steel Mill is part of the Liberty Rod and Bar business and produces around 800,000t of steel rod and bar products per annum. We currently require a Mechanical Engineer (B.Eng.) to join our Laverton operations with mission of leading a team of tradespeople to achieve our business objectives.   

As a key member of the Laverton Meltshop Maintenance team and reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will primarily be focused on planning pro-active and re-active boilermaking and construction work, organisation of resources and time schedules, prioritization of work and controlling activities to ensure safe execution of the plan, this is to ensure a sustainable business capable of meeting our promise to customers.

The role is accountable for all boilermaking activities aimed at sustaining and improving equipment in terms of inherent safety, reliability and availability. The role is responsible for coaching and mentoring a team of boilermakers, manage a cost centre budget, performing performance evaluations and performance optimisation. The person will also take part in wider optimisation activities as the mechanical engineering specialist in the department.

Our ideal candidate will be a mechanical engineer with experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Equally important will be:

• Previous exposure to some form of computer based maintenance management system (CMMS)
