 A Fantastic opportunity for a Senior Structural/Mechanical Design Engineer to lead a dynamic team.  

Sikorsky Australia, a Lockheed Martin Company, is widely regarded as Australia's leading Commercial and Defence helicopter support organisation. We provide expertise in maintenance servicing solutions, repair and overhaul of aircraft as well as a full range of end to end supply chain services.

As the Structures / Mechanical Design Engineer & Team Lead you will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching expertise to your team. Your key accountabilities in the lead role will include providing oversight to the design, review and approval of engineering documentation. You will also be required to coordinate and delegate projects accordingly to the Structures & Mechanical Engineers in order of priority and importance, and ensure that projects are executed and delivered within the appropriate time frames. Your success in this role will demand that you manage your team and assist the Design Engineering Manager in meeting enterprise Quality, Delivery, Customer Satisfaction, Employee Engagment, Environmental Health & Safety and KPI's as detailed in personal PFT.

In addition, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • The coaching and mentoring of engineering resource personnel for career progression;
  • The monitoring of projects, their status and scheduled delivery dates;
  • Providing guidance and oversight for compliance to regulations , procedures and protocol;
  • The development, review and authorisation of quotes on engineering design project development; and
  • The development, review and approval of structural repairs and design change modifications within the scope and level of internal engineering authority in conjunction with any CASA and/or DASA authorisations held. 
To be successful in this position, you must demonstrate the following experience and competencies: 
  • Bachelor Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Structural or related discipline of Engineering.
  • A high level of experience in developing structural repairs and modifications to Civilian and/or Military rotary wing or fixed wing aircraft.
  • A high level of knowledge of FEA and hand calculation based structural analysis methodologies, especially with respect to aircraft structures.
  • A high level of design experience in using CAD and 3D modelling, in particular AutoCAD Mechanical and/or Inventor or similar design software.
  • A high working level knowledge and proficient in the use of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Regulations (CASRs under Subpart 21M) and Australian Defence Force Aviation Regulations (DASRs under Subpart 21J) for Rotary and Fixed Wing aircraft.
  • Hold a CASR Subpart 21 (21.006/21.437 and/or a 21.009(1)(f)) IoA approval.
  • Currently hold a Department of Defence security clearance or be eligible to obtain a security clearance to NV1.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows Office applications.
  • A high level of experience in using CAD and 3D modelling, in particular AutoCAD Mechanical and/or Inventor.
  • Currently hold membership to Engineers Australia (IEAust) and CPENG certification or be eligible to obtain membership in order to work towards obtaining CPENG certification.
  • Currently hold RPEQ or be eligible to obtain RPEQ status.
