As a Civil Engineer with 5 years experience you are likely career minded and looking to gain experience that is going to give you that leg up into a future Senior role.
At this level what is required is the ability to take ownership of projects, to start build connections, getting in front of clients and have a big picture view to a project.
You will not get this if you continue down a specialist path of being pigeon holed into one area of civil engineering. You need to have that broad exposure in order not be bottlenecked from stepping up.
At your level, client work and consulting with council officials and developers and getting to site and seeing your designs being implemented is what is important.
Technical expertise is always the back drop of where your experience lies, but it is at this crucial point in your career that you are gaining exposure to the above areas so that you are seen as a valuable asset to a future employer.
This role allows exposure to projects across residential and commercial developments, roads, transport and water sectors, contributing your skills across design management and project management as well mentoring junior staff.
Projects range from a Greenfields residential master planned community with retail, schools, community center and open spaces to an upgrade to a transport for NSW network, to Sydney Water local council works and everything in between.
You will also be involved in broader company meetings about overall strategy and big picture thinking not usually afforded at this level.
Need at least 5 years’ experience in an engineering consultancy with broad civil engineering design experience.
