Melbourne Water is a significant business. We manage water supply catchments, sewage, along with rivers, creeks and major drainage systems. Our core flood services are defined through the 2015 Flood Management Strategy – Port Phillip and Westernport. The Flood Services Team manages the drainage assets and improvement program for Melbourne’s regional drainage network.

The Role

As a Senior Drainage Engineer you will provide expertise across the asset management drainage portfolio to develop and integrate three to five year rolling investment programs. Pivotal to this will be maintaining and renewing Melbourne Water’s civil drainage infrastructure.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Provide expert advice and technical direction in developing and applying asset management regimes that will maintain and renew Melbourne Water’s drainage infrastructure. These assets include: Retarding Basins, Levee banks, pump stations, tidal gates, jetties, culverts, drainage bridges and underground drains.
  • Work constructively and collaboratively with internal partners to develop programs that maintain the agreed level of service for drainage assets.
  • Develop detailed options and interventions for drainage maintenance and renewals.
  • Develop and maintain an up to date 20 year capital plan that deliver the deliver the drainage renewals to support the provision of civil drainage services.
  • Develop apply and communicate relevant approaches for prioritising the works program for drainage assets.
  • Assess and report on drainage asset performance, service capability and risk to drainage services.
  • Establish and maintain the requisite drainage asset management plans, procedures and standards.
  • Build and maintain positive customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • In delivering all accountabilities, strive for a generative safety culture, taking care of own and colleague’s health and safety through active identification, elimination and management of safety risks.
  • Communicate and negotiate positive outcomes for the community with skill.

Your ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is key coupled with a qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or related technical discipline.
