About the role:

We are proud to partner with a highly regarded Newcastle business that provides specialist electrical solutions to the mining, power generation, resource, infrastructure and distribution sectors. The products they deliver to both Australian and overseas customers include substations, switchboards, switchrooms and motor control centres. They are known for their continued research and development activities that produce high quality products, and for delivering these products to customers on time. This business has developed strong client relationships over many years which has resulted in many long-term clients and repeat business. 

Due to a strong pipeline of work, our client is looking for a Control Systems Engineer with a minimum of 5 years' experience to join their Newcastle team. Key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Development of functional descriptions and test documentation
  • Development/programming of PLCs, SCADA and other programmable devices
  • Perform bench testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing and Commissioning
  • Working unsupervised and in small project teams
  • Provide guidance and assistance to those not as knowledgeable in the Control and Monitoring Systems
  • Contribute to Design Reviews and Design Risk Assessments
  • Conduct training as required
To be considered for this role, it is essential that you hold:
  • Electrical Engineering Degree/Diploma, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar environment
  • PLC knowledge (Allen Bradley – RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000; GE Fanuc – Proficy Machine Edition; Pilz – PAS4000)
  • SCADA knowledge (Citect, FactoryTalk View, Vijeo Designer)
  • IT Systems knowledge (Ethernet IP Networks, Modbus interfacing, VMware, Windows systems, Microsoft Office)
  • Variable Speed Drives knowledge (ABB, Toshiba, WEG, Vacon)
  • First-hand experience in on-site commissioning and fault finding
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including site operators, engineers, electricians and subject matter experts
  • Applied understanding of relevant Australian Standards
  • Basic understanding of scripts, namely SQL, VBL, Windows batch files, Excel macros
  • Experience in SIL-rated systems would be an advantage
  • Australian permanent residency
