Wood is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Process Engineer for the Mining and Minerals team based in our Brisbane office. Utilising your strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills, you will add value and technical leadership to a portfolio of projects servicing diverse client requirements. This role is offered on a permanent staff basis and is open to candidates with Australian citizenship or those with the required permit / VISA in place.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Principal Process Engineer applies technical engineering expertise to projects and to the discipline engineering team, through the development of process engineering strategies, standards and frameworks that ensure engineering processes and designs are optimised to enable safe, efficient and effective construction, commissioning and operation of facilities and infrastructure, throughout their lifecycle.

Reporting to the Manager Brisbane, Mining and Minerals, you will work across a diverse range of studies and projects as they progress through the project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking process design, documentation and construction/commissioning support work on engineering projects through all project phases

  • Establishing client relationships which are based on a professional level of technical challenge and complexity to drive lean, fit for purpose and safe design without jeopardising project progress

  • Providing specialist technical input within project milestones and delivery dates to support study and project process engineering requirements and to provide early advice to stakeholders about technical risks and impacts to project scope, schedule and budget

  • Leading simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases on a wide variety of processes

  • Development and review of engineering deliverables to drive optimisation and development of a solution that meets the project’s design intent

  • Preparation and contribution to technical reports for sections relating to testwork, metallurgical development, operating costs and process plant design/deliverables

  • As a senior member in the engineering team, leads, coaches and mentors team members to ensure delivery against performance targets

  • Assisting in development of proposals and project scopes in collaboration with management, business development, project delivery, engineering and discipline representatives

ABOUT YOU:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgical, Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineering with Post Graduate qualifications in engineering or management being highly desirable
  • Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)

  • Extensive experience in a project design environment within the consulting, mining and minerals processing industries

  • Significant technical proficiency in the process engineering discipline across lifecycle (study, design, installation, commissioning, operation)

  • Proven experience in extractive metallurgy with specific expertise in comminution and flotation including design, interpretation of test work results, plant layouts, process design criteria, trade-off studies, process flow diagrams and P&IDs

  • Extensive design and operational experience primarily with mineral concentrators but hydrometallurgical plant experience will also be viewed favourably

  • Demonstrated leadership of teams to achieve high performing outcomes

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen as well as managing technical risk and governance for successful delivery of projects safely, on time and on budget.

  • Become a team member who is regarded for their technical knowledge and provides cooperative, pro-active and solution-focused project input

  • A performance and achievement orientated professional, your technical strengths will be complemented by excellent relationship management skills enabling you to influence and lead successful change in a challenging environment

  • Proficiency in process simulation software such as MetSim, JKSimFloat and JKSimMet will be highly regarded
