Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of a Performance Engineer to support the development and application of best practice maintenance methods and processes to support the infrastructure department managers to meet operational, reliability and financial targets.

What the role entails
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer to provide technical leadership in the Asset Performance and Engineering Team in order to promote the appropriate improvement via methodologies of technical data analysis and collaboration across the organisation. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Performance and Engineering, the role involves:
• Providing technical leadership in the Infrastructure Department to provide the appropriate improvement, measurement and reporting tools, methodologies and techniques to enable increased global performance and maintenance efficiency and effectiveness;
• Focusing on continuous improvement and drive innovation by researching new technologies, methods and equipment;
• Monitoring and making appropriate recommendations for asset data management to ensure data integrity of the system is maintained to reflect the current network;
• Leading the implementation of change, through risk management and regulatory processes;
• Developing and delivering presentations or workshops on Asset performance related subjects;
• Complying and assuring compliance of the department with all Yarra Trams systems policies and standards;
• Ensuring competent safe and cost effective operation of all departmental staff, plant and equipment.

What you will need for this role
To be successful in this role, you will have:
• Demonstrated knowledge in a relevant engineering discipline and ability to apply logic in dealing with data for reporting/decision making;
• Understanding of process management, asset management and reliability concepts;
• Ability to compile and write technical reports in plain English;
• Demonstrable experience in leading reliability and process improvement initiatives within a complex commercial organisation;
• History of setting and monitoring goals for own and subordinates performance and undertaking improvements to the team’s work performance capability;
• Awareness and commitment to quality and risk management concepts;
• Knowledge of the operation of the tram system and facilities;
• Ability to initiate and implement change to meet business needs, as well as working under pressure in a rapidly changing environment;
• Excellent communication and persuasive skills, including good negotiation skills, interpersonal relationships and ability to deal effectively internally and externally at all levels;
• Analytical, evaluation and decision making skills, and ability to prepare reports and deliver presentations;
• Competent in the use of PC’s and various software applications, including project management, database and spreadsheet software;
• Must possess a current Victorian Drivers Licence.
