About the opportunity

Reporting to the Secondary Plants Manager, we have an opportunity available for a Protection and Power Quality Systems Engineer to join us for a 12 month fixed term contract based in our Melbourne CBD office.

The Protection and Power Quality Systems Engineer main responsibility is to optimise the performance of protection, control, metering, monitoring, power quality meter, smart meters and equipment within electricity distribution networks in Jemena. The Protection and Power Quality Systems Engineer will optimise the performance through the analysis, development and implementation of cost-effective strategic asset management plans, policies and standards.

Other responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the development of protection and power quality monitoring systems standards and policies for plant, applications, material and services, including preventative measures
• Perform engineering assessments for new plant and applications, condition monitoring for existing plant and failure investigations for failed plan
• Plan for the asset management of all electric network plant and applications
• Develop and gain approval of maintenance, replacement and augmentation strategies and projects
• Develop and maintain Maintenance Engineering documents and perform associated activities

What we’re looking for

The successful candidate will be tertiary qualified, preferably with an electrical engineering qualification. The candidate must have experience in strategic management and a good understanding of power quality systems and protection equipment market and suppliers.

Other competencies, skills and experience required include;

• Good understanding of the regulatory environment both technical and economic,
• Strong project management skills,
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders,
• Ability to assist the Senior Engineer to assimilate large amounts of information and distil strategic issues,
• Strong customer focus,
• Financial pricing and cost analysis skills,
• Highly developed strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving skills,

This role requires someone with strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely professional reports.
