Process Engineer

Core Resources is a market leader in the provision of specialist metallurgical and process engineering services to the mining and resources industry. Core's business integrates real world experience, process engineering excellence, and laboratory rigour to deliver integrated metallurgical process solutions for our clients.  Core also owns and markets leading process technologies. We offer a stimulating and challenging technical environment, servicing a global client base.  Core has a 35 year history, and is currently in a strong growth phase.

Core is seeking to strengthen its Technical Services Group through engaging an experienced Process Engineer.  We are seeking a candidate with strong client management skills combined with excellent technical depth.

The involvement of Core's engineers in our clients' projects can span from initial conceptualisation of process solutions, through to full management and execution of Feasibility Studies, and to on-site commissioning and optimisation of process plants.

The role will principally be responsible for:

  • Management of engineering and testwork programmes, including:
    • Co-ordination and planning of the various aspects of the process engineering and testwork activities.
    • Development and manipulation of process models, principally using METSIM (though other packages are also used).
    • Design, specification, management and interpretation of metallurgical testwork and pilot programmes; this includes interface with staff in Core's large internal metallurgical & analytical laboratories.
    • Carry out trade off studies and techno-economic evaluation of process flowsheets at a scoping study level (Class 5 – Class 4)
  • Direct interface and communication with client and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the project meets or exceeds agreed expectations.
  • Prepare and review project proposals and technical reports.
  • Carry out risk assessment for projects being undertaken, incorporating safety, environmental, technical and commercial risk.
  • Assist with business development activities.
  • Occasional short term deployment to mine sites for site based project work (as needed, and in discussion with management).

Essential requirements for the role:

  • 10+ years' experience in design of processes for extractive metallurgy, including experience in both project and operational environments.
  • In depth technical knowledge of process plant design and operation, especially in hydrometallurgy and metal recovery.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydrometallurgical and metal recovery unit processes for base and precious metals grounded in a strong understanding of fundamental chemistry.  Specific knowledge of Ni or Co processes will be highly regarded.
  • METSIM modelling capabilities, or similar capabilities with an ability to quickly pick up METSIM.
  • Excellent time-management skills with ability to prioritise work.
  • Effective listening, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical and computer skills, with an exceptional eye for detail.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in developing capital and operating costs for hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Exposure to, or experience in, a metallurgical laboratory environment.

An attractive remuneration package will be provided.
