About the business

Selex ES Australia was first established in Victoria as part of the company's commitment to deliver the SEA 1442-4 ANZAC communications capability to the Royal Australian Navy. Our Port Melbourne facility is home to our Project Management Office, Systems Integration and Test Facility and Support Services. It also represents a local engineering and logistics resource with the ability to design, deliver and support naval communications in Australia.

The company is actively engaging with our Australian suppliers and is undertaking a comprehensive knowledge transfer programme into both Selex ES Australia and the local supply chain. These vital elements will help to create a regional centre of excellence that will continue to grow our communications technology business in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

About the role

The Project Manager, Installation & Support role will:

  • Lead the development of an installation and supportability capability for the RAN.
  • Manage the planning, allocation and deployment of supportability team members including contract staff.
  • Ensure team size and capability mix is optimised to ensure successful delivery of outputs.
  • Cost account management of work packages.
  • Provide effective supportability solutions for the RAN new communications capability.
  • Provide leadership for the development of the supportability capability and the engineers within the business.
  • Development of processes and procedures to be implemented within the function.
  • Delivering a capability for the RAN that meets the Australian Defence Doctrine Publication requirements.
  • Work package management including schedule and cost.
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including customers to develop and then deliver the capability.
  • Develop and share best practice across all business areas.
  • Identifying hardware and software requirements to support the capability being developed including lifecycle cost models and configuration management tools.
  • Financial management for a cost account and ownership of a budget.
  • Provide cost effective solutions to the support of the capability including the selection of engineering tools and processes.

Skills and experience

  • Extensive experience across more than one of the lifecycle phases demonstrating a true through life approach to support
  • Extensive experience in more than one engineering or logistic domain with a proven customer delivery performance
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Understanding of and substantial background in the Support environment
  • Personally credible with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deliver programmes to a high quality
  • Business awareness and commercially focused
  • Leadership and strong management skills
  • Ability to devise innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Energy and enthusiasm to motivate and engage others
  • Integrity and approachability
  • Microsoft Windows literate including Excel and Project.
  • Familiarity with project lifecycle management techniques.
  • 5+ years working within a defence background

Professional/Educational qualifications

This role requires

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in either engineering or logistics management
  • Certification in Project Management instruments/methodologies eg PMBOK, Agile, PRINCE2

Defence security clearance is required for this role.  Applicants MUST have an existing Security Clearance (or have held one in the past).  Applicants whom do not meet this criteria need not apply.
