Due to the growth of our business and an expanded portfolio of projects, an exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Engineering Manager to join our team.

As part of the Transport & Resources team, this role covers a broad range of skills relating to Rail. The primary focus of this role is to contribute to developing the Rail services of our business, supporting our clients and building a profitable Transport & Resources team.

The Engineering Manager will undertake design, project management and consulting services within Rail services, in order to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for the current and future overall performance of the office, as part of the management team;
  • Implement and manage Interdisciplinary Design Check (IDC) processes for all design documentation which has an interface with another design discipline;
  • Be required to develop and implement longer term plans in line with the Arup business strategy;
  • Be required to approve and sign any deliverables issued to the client for acceptance;
  • Be responsible for the management of interfaces between different project disciplines, along with management of the IDC process.
  • Be responsible for procuring work, negotiating major contracts and for financial performance in several specified area;
  • Be held responsible for the development, design and management of large, complex, long term projects. This will involve coordinating people, facilities and resources within tight timelines and in line with budgetary constraints;
  • Be accountable for client relations and of representing Arup at a high level nationally and internationally;
  • Be responsible for recruitment, appraisals, performance development, morale and motivation of staff;
  • Be responsible for executing responsibilities as outlined in Arup’s Quality Management System.


You will have demonstrated:

  • Relevant industry experience in Rail Infrastructure within a consulting business environment;
  • Extensive engineering and project management capability with proven ability to manage and coordinate all engineering and non-engineering disciplines of a major passenger rail infrastructure project at various stages in the project lifecycle;
  • Understanding of the multidisciplinace technical interfaces of major passenger rail infrastructure;
  • Chartered Professional Membership of Engineers Australia or equivalent;
  • Membership of relevant legislations, regulations, codes of practice, an guidelines – and Arups related procedures including OH&S.


With recognised tertiary qualifications in relevant fields, you will be able to demonstrate your experience in design, project management and implementation in your field, within a consulting business environment.

You will possess demonstrated excellent attention to detail along with high-level verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, you will have proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership will be highly regarded.
