Wood is currently recruiting a Project Engineer with a strong Electrical Engineering background to join our team at Melbourne Water located in Brooklyn. Being a degree qualified Electrical Engineer you will have extensive experience having held positions of responsibility in all phases of the project life cycle across multiple projects.

As a Project Engineer, the successful applicant will be responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously from proposal to close out. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to; concept evaluation, detailed design, procurement and site execution management with a high emphasis on the preparation of safety and quality requirements to documentation standards.

Whilst previous experience in the water industry would be advantageous, a high aptitude for providing pragmatic solutions is considered a must.

Wood has sixteen years’ experience providing maintenance services to Australia’s water industry and our achievements have been considered world class best practice for maintenance in water utilities by the MCP AIMS.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead/champion project HSEQ requirements, enforce and maintain high HSE standards throughout project delivery
  • Manage multiple minor projects from proposal to close out simultaneously
  • Develop  project documentation including; client and subcontractor scopes of work, estimates, schedules and risk registers which are ‘fit for purpose’ given the varied nature of projects undertaken
  • Ensure the correct procedures and specifications are followed throughout all projects;
  • Develop client relationships
  • Conduct and participate in project risk assessments
  • Provide engineering input to all design phases, including interpretation and challenge of standards
  • Provide practical and engineering support to the construction/commissioning phases of a project

Skills / Qualifications

  • Emergency lighting experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Engineering qualification
  • Extensive experience in multi-disciplined water utilities projects or other relevant heavy industry applications within the $100k-$1M range
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/champion project HSEQ requirements throughout both design and execution
  • Practiced in project control mechanisms for both budget and schedule
  • Demonstrated experience  managing multiple projects in parallel
  • Demonstrated experience  managing multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to administer construction works
  • Demonstrated ability to create subcontractor scopes of work for  multi discipline works for both quotation and tender
  • Practiced in  commercial and technical  bid assessments
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver to deadlines
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with both colleagues and client;
  • Extensive site experience with a pragmatic focus on outcomes for safety, quality and planning
  • Practical problem solving skills
